General reasons
Stock exchanges are the only legalized gambling dens. Big business makes money from small investors. There are many different things or news which affects the share prices.
Main reasons are :( 1) Demand and supply of floating stock (2) Government policies (3) Good/bad corporate governance etc.
v At the most fundamental level, supply and demand in the market determines stock price.
v When a company shows a big loss or have bad news the stock will go down. When a stock is offered for sale the scenarios mentioned above (and many more reasons) comes into play. If it has bad news & the person offering the stock does not get any takers than he lowers the price he ask per share. Hence, the price goes down.
v The stocks are volatile and can change in price very rapidly.
v The stock market fluctuates due to the agreement and disagreement of the investors. Some group believes that the price of a particular stock would go up and buys it. At the same time, the other group believes that the price of the same stock would go down and sells it. Based on the majority of the buyers or sellers, the market rates fluctuate.
v Stock prices change every day because of market forces. By this we mean that stock prices change because of “supply and demand”. If more people want to buy a stock (demand) than sell it (supply), then the price moves up!
v Conversely, if more people wanted to sell a stock than buy it, there would be greater supply than demand, and the price would fall. (Basics of economics!)
v The most important factor that affects the value of a company is its earnings. Earnings are the profit a company makes, and in the long run no company can survive without them. It makes sense when you think about it. If a company never makes money, it isn’t going to stay in business. Public companies are required to report their earnings four times a year if a company’s results are better than expected, the price jumps up. If a company’s results disappoint and are worse than expected, then the price will fall.
v If a company's results are better than expected, the price jumps up. If a company's results disappoint and are worse than expected, then the price will fall.
v Of course, it's not just earnings that can change the feeling people have about a stock. It would be a rather simple world if this were the case! As we all know high stock prices did not hold, and most internet companies saw their values shrink to a fraction of their highs. Still, this fact demonstrates that there are factors other than current earnings that influence stocks.
v When a stock is offered for sale the scenarios mentioned above (and many more reasons) comes into play. If it has bad news & the person offering the stock does not get any takers than he lowers the price he ask per share. Hence, the price goes down.
v In the simplest terms it is the demand and supply but there are some other factors which keep popping in like, good results, policies of the government.
v If many people want to buy a certain share its value goes up but if no one wants it then its value goes down.
v Stock price is determined by some weighted average of investment acts from investors applying informational diversified investment strategies. The dynamics behind the price fluctuation is as follows: The higher the share of uninformed investors, the more uncertain the market price is relative to the fundamental stock value.
v Conversely, if there are more investors who want to buy the stock than the number of shareholders who are willing to sell their holdings, the price will go up, and up, and up…. As a result, stock prices fluctuate daily.
